Thinking Blog Award
Aspazia tapped me with this meme that's been circulating -- the Thinking Blog Award. I usually don't do these, but I do think there are some smart lesser known blogs I would love to see get a wider readership. (hint: it also helps to get someone to do something if they think they are getting an award for doing it -- even if it is an award you just made up.)
The groundrules are:
1. If, and only if, you get tagged, write a post with links to 5 blogs that make you think,
2. Link to this post so that people can easily find the exact origin of the meme,
3. Optional: Proudly display the 'Thinking Blogger Award' with a link to the post that you wrote.
My five:
Barefoot Bum: BB has become a regular here at the playground and always has thoughtful, provocative pieces. Larry is the sort of intellectual I love to play with because he's authentic. He'll rightly take you to task if you are sloppy and he'll stand with you if he thinks you are on target.
Buridan's Ass: What I love about Buridan is his ability to give bite sized chunks of yummy intelligent goodness. Whether it is snark, insight, outrage, or celebration, it's an espresso shot of smart.
The NonSequitur: It's a critical thinking class, it's a blog, it's a critical thinking class, it's a blog, it's a critical thinking class in a blog. These guys do some of the best logical analyses of contemporary political discourse this side of the Daily Howler.
Philosophical Bits: Phil's meditations on things philosophical are always good. one of his slew of blogs, it's well worth the daily peek.
My Life and Times: Singpr's blog is new but off to a very nice start. Well worth the read. Smart and spunky.
I limited it to five, but there are a bunch of others. Please leave the names and links to your blog or to others that you think deserve wider recognition.

The Playground Is Closed
This is my 2,000th and final post at the Philosophers' Playground. It's been six and a half years of almost daily entertainment posing questions and provocative theses for you folks to bat around. It was during a sabbatical when my...

Meme: Passion Quilt
I generally avoid blog memes, but Janet tagged me with an interesting one -- and it's the end of finals week... The challenge is: Post a picture or make/take/create your own that captures what YOU are most passionate for students to learn about. Give...

Blogs And Citations
So I get an e-mail the other day from someone asking very politely if he could have permission to translate one of my posts into French and put it on his blog. I responded as I usually do to such requests, saying no problem and feel free to reprint anything...

Snow White And The Seven Habits Of Highly Successful Dwarves
I generally don't respond to blog-memes, partly because of an anti-authoritarian streak where I hate to be told what to think and write about and partly because I like for this to be a blog about ideas, not about me. But I got tagged with this one...

Happy Birthday, Philosophers' Playground
Have a piece of cake! Today is this humble little playground's first birthday. I can't believe it has been an entire year since I let Aspazia talk me into starting a blog, but it has been a lot of fun. I could not be more surprised or pleased...
