Ann Coulter, Deadhead?

O.k., this is weird -- an interview with Ann Coulter in which she claims to have seen 67 Dead shows. Here's the quotation that really scares me,
Somewhat contrary to the image of Deadheads as hippies, the Dead were huge in my hometown of New Canaan, CT, which is a pretty preppie town. We toyed with the idea of making "Truckin'" our prom song with a "Long Strange Trip" theme, but we ended up with some dorky rainbow theme instead. I tend to associate the Dead with lacrosse players and my favorite fraternities, Fiji and Theta Delt.
Alright, I will cop to having been a Deadhead and I will even plead guilty to having been a lacrosse player, but I was never, NEVER in a fraternity. The thought that I am now 67% of the archetype of Ann Coulter's fond image makes me feel dirty...and not in the "haven't showered in a couple days because I slept in the back of Larry's station wagon after catching an incredible show in Hershey in 1985" kind of way.

- Modern Mencken
Tomorrow is Mencken day at the Enoch Pratt Library, honoring one of the great intellects of Baltimore.  Who would be the modern day version of H.L. Mencken?  Is there a writer who is smart, ascerbic, conservative, and wry?  P.J. O'Rourke? ...

- From The "irony Can Be So Ironic" File
Ann Coulter's Jaw Wired Shut. We wish a speedy recovery, of course, but couple this with the fact that Rahm Emmanuel lost part of his middle finger in an accident and you've got yet more evidence of the existence of the Cosmic Comic. Irony this...

- Saying Thank You For A Real Good Time
Someone there best described it as fantasy camp for Deadheads. The conference, Unbroken Chain: The Grateful Dead in Music, Culture and Memory, was truly amazing. The conference opened on Friday morning with Rebecca Adams introducing her sociological studies...

- Happy Grateful Dead Day!
It is officially Grateful Dead day! At least it is in Ithaca, New York. Of the more than 3,000 shows the band played, the widely acknowledged best of them, the night the X factor went exponential was May 8, 1977 in a show at Cornell's Barton Hall...

- Anchors And News Readers
I'm a philosophy teacher. I'll be the first to admit that when I say "I don't get it," I'm usually being disingenuous. It's an old classroom trick. But this time I really don't get it. Katie Couric, anchor of CBS Evening News?...
